- Seven Seniors Named National Merit Scholars -
Highlands High School paced Northern Kentucky when seven
seniors were named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.
All seven are expected to be named National Merit Finalists
in the spring. They are: Griffin Austin, Leslie Gilb, Alyssa
Latham, Spencer Malone, Tim Nielsen, Justin Perkins and Chad
Schaber.
- Highlands Leads Northern Kentucky in ACT Scores
-Highlands High School lead Northern Kentucky in average ACT
scores for the class of 2006. Highlands had an average ACT
score of 23.8. Beechwood was second with an average ACT
score of 22.5, followed by Ryle with a score of 22.2. Conner
and Dixie Heights had the fourth and fifth best average ACT
scores in Northern Kentucky.

- From the 1930s - Florence Reeves Knox
& Harold Knox, ('38) live in Fairfield, Ohio.
Florence writes: "Harold and I are doing fine. I am still at
Waterford Retirement Home and loving it. Harold is still at
Glen Meadows and doing well. We enjoy having Harriet
Hoeweler ('38) living close, and we enjoy reading Over
The Hill Topper."
- From the 1940s - Rose Doty Willis, ('45),
resides in Pensacola, Florida with her husband, Clayton.
Rose writes that she is a great grandmother with the recent
birth of Ethan Brand. Three of her daughters live in the
Pensacola area. "Life is Good!"
- From the 1950s - Bill Kiel,
('53) and Anita McMullen Kiel, ('55), moved to Scottsdale,
AZ, to be near Betsy, ('86) and family. "We miss Ft.
Thomas and look forward to coming back each year but we
enjoy the beautiful desert, the wildlife and spring cactus
flowers," writes Anita. "We still play tennis at our
Community Center and some golf. We're always interested in
seeing people from our past."
- From the 1960s - Richard Velkley,
('67) has assumed the Ceclia Schott Weather-head
Professorship of Philosophy at Tulane University in New
Orleans.
- From the 1970s - Nancy Johnson Baker ('71)
resides in Ft. Thomas and has been a member of the Fort
Thomas School Board for seven years. Nancy and her husband,
Mark, have four children in college: Kim (NKU), Jamie (Univ
of Dayton), Randall (UC); and Greg (UK). Nancy and Mark have
been married 26 years.
